Germany is home to Europe’s third and fourth largest tech hubs, Berlin and Munich. This makes it one of the best countries for software developers. Here, we’ll take a look at average salaries for TypeScript developers at each stage of their careers and how they compare to JavaScript developer salaries.
Average junior TypeScript developer salary
TypeScript developers starting out in Germany start out with an average annual salary of €36 214. At this level, there’s not much to choose between this and the average JavaScript salary, which is only 1.1% (€390) less.
With two years experience, however, TypeScript developers see their earnings grow more strongly than their JavaScript counterparts, with a huge 35% (€12 677) increase taking their salary to €48 891. That’s 10.1% (€4 482) more than JavaScript developers with the same amount of experience. With four-to-six years on the job, TypeScript programmers can expect a 9% (€4 416) raise to €53 307 – 6% (€3 038) more than the JavaScript average.
These large pay increases early in their careers reflect the continuing demand for TypeScript developers with even a little experience. Moreover, as junior developers are more prone to switching jobs frequently, they also have more opportunities to negotiate fresh and lucrative new starting salaries.

Average senior TypeScript developer salary
Past the six-year mark, TypeScript developers should receive another handsome increase: 21.9% (€11 677) to bring their remuneration to €64 984. Similarly experienced JavaScript developers earn 5.4% (€3 316) less.
Elite TypeScript developers – those with at least a decade in the industry – are in for another solid pay bump of 19.9% (€12 917), bringing their salary to €77 901. At this stage, the gap with JavaScript has closed again somewhat, with TypeScript devs earning just 3.3% (€2 467) more.
With TypeScript proficiency needed for a huge proportion of developer jobs, it’s little surprise that highly experienced developers continue to see notable salary growth, making this a rewarding career for those who pursue it.

The data in this article is taken from StackOverflow’s 2022 Developer Survey’s open data. In this article, ‘salary’ refers to the gross annual salary (before tax) provided by 600 survey respondents from Germany who identified as TypeScript developers.
We only included salary insights for experience levels with enough data points to ensure that the amounts represent TypeScript developers in the country. That’s why we’ve omitted developers with more than fifteen years of experience from the article.
We also ran an outlier analysis to identify data points skewing the distribution of salaries. These points were removed from the final dataset to ensure that the amounts are representative of TypeScript developers in Germany. We’ve also included the 25th and 75th percentiles to give you further information about the distribution of salary data.
Average salaries are single data points and only one part of a bigger story. Many respondents may earn significantly more or significantly less than these averages. However, we hope to show underlying trends by mapping the average salaries for different experience levels.
These averages should not be used to estimate what your actual salary will or should be. Salaries depend on the company size, industry, individual, perks and nature of the work. These factors all influence the salary a company will offer to a prospective hire. In addition, most developers are “fluent” in several languages and work across multiple roles, which will also affect the final figures.
It’s also important to remember that every individual’s context is different. Salary is a personal conversation that should take place between employee and employer.
